You often have heard and read about the professional tussle of internet big players, but now here is something that may be shocking for many as these big players have jointly announced to back a new standard for web. It is being said that this development will help billions of publishers to delete duplicate pages from websites. With these new steps, different search engines could make search results a lot more comprehensive.
“The web is full of mess these days and now we want publishers to be better able to cleanout huge amount of junk,” says Matt Cutts, who is heading spam fighting efforts at Google.”
“I believe that it will get more traction after some time,” Cutts adds.
There are many publishers on the web which have various URLs and all point towards similar page. The problem is quite significant with publishers who have huge sites just as e-commerce firms. It becomes quite difficult and confusing for search engines and they often seem to index one page several times.
Nathan Buggia, who is a lead programmer at Microsoft, says: We are excited that all are backing up this implementation and it would definitely be quite beneficial for various publishers as it will provide them a chance to have better exposure via search engines.”
Every search engine has developed its technology to find out duplicates and the effectiveness of these technologies seems to vary.
