1. Mobile Data Systems:
Paperwork keeps officers busy in the offices when they should be observing the roads and streets. This is what people gripe about a lot these days. To solve this problem, the NPIA is planning to provide funds, support and guidance on handheld computing solutions. This will take the office-dwellers out on the roads; i.e. where they should be present in reality.
This will enable the officers to take notes as well as file crime reports digitally. Direct access to databases such as Police National Computer has also been made handy. Devices haven’t been specifies by NPIA, therefore individuals can choose handhelds. A variety of devices can be seen in officers’ hands ranging from WinMobs to blackberries.
2. Body-Worn Video Camera:
Body-Worn Video Camera is used by the cops to record anything that
can be of benefit while dealing with anti social behaviors. Benefits of such a device are numerous; from recording important dialogue-exchange to capturing escaping culprits.
This is a great help for court process as exact and true evidence can be provided. Strathclyde Police says, “As the camera records the actions of the officer, it will increase accountability and reduce the scope for false allegations.”
3. Mobile CCTV:
Are you among those drivers who forget to make and attend calls in their home, even forget to have their meals at home and recall every such chore only when they are driving their cars on the highway? Then beware of these 3.6m high cameras positioned at busy junctions for keeping an eye on such drivers. Threats of fines and points being added on to the driver’s license if caught are also added.
4. SPECS (Average Speed Cameras):
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology is used by these cameras. They capture the number plates of the cars that violate speed limits. These cameras linked to each other and this is why the average speed can be calculated by the authorities. This can lead to fine and points on the license.
5. Breathalysers:
