Innovating something is the key activity which most of the developers do while developing some new product as no one wants to reinvent the wheel. The technological advancement of the world is also because of the innovations performed in every field of technology development. As this year has came to an end and the analysis process is on its way to check which technology has overtaken the other technologies and for this purpose Crunchies has been established. Actually Crunchies is a competition to recognize to celebrate the most exciting startups, internet and technological innovations of the year.  Read/WriteWeb, GigaOm, VentureBeat and TechCrunch are the main organizers of the Crunchies and this year the finalist Crunchies have been declared and that are: Earthmine, Like, Move Networks, Twine, and Viewdle. The result has been concluded from the online voting and the lovers of these applications have voted for them to make them the best technological innovation of the year. Let me discuss all of them one by one.

1. Twine

Twine is a very wonderful Wikipedia kind of an application brought to you by radar networks and it is currently a private beta. The data availability on Twine is very effective for the users and people have reported it to be very effective for the completion of their tasks. Apart from the knowledge management it also performs the work like a social networking site as it gives you a new way to collect videos, photos, articles, WebPages and products thus giving you such a sufficient place to store them all on a same place and share them with anyone you want, you can create your own groups and communities on Twine and can use it alone or with friends.

The overall main perspective of Twine is that it helps you in collecting information in a new highly personalized way; it organizes your contents by topic so that you can keep track of it and share it with your friends.

2. Viewdle

It is a visual search engine type of application which is very efficient for searching videos. It was presented for the first time at the Techcrunch40 event in September last year, and according to the developers it uses a face recognition algorithm to search people within the videos.

A very good thing about their algorithm is that it works even in the uncontrolled environments like in various lightening conditions, camera angles and resolutions as it is designed to be scalable and fast. It has been noted that viewdle has dealed with Reuters and others. According to the company’s claim at the time of the launch the application will use contextual analysis which will allow it to recognize faces even if the data enlarges too many face.

3. Like

Like viewdle it is also an algorithm based search engine but this one is for visual shopping and it has been notified that the name was based on the AltSearchEngine’s Top 100 Alternative Search Engines of the Year. It has also used face recognition technologies for the image search and the main attempt is to commercialize that technology.

According to the developers it has utilized the “likeness technology” to create a digital signature that describes the contents of photo. It is the best one for online shopping and has got a good enough support from the users in making it a top crunchie. Currently the products available on the site are: clothing, handbags, jewelry, shoes, and watches and it might also get some more products by the time. The users can purchase the products on the side through merchants like Nordstrom and Amazon.

4. Earthmine

This application has been launched at DEMOfall 07 and the overall perspective is almost same as the Google street view maps. It has not provided the video facility but it tracks out the path via laser range finding and still photography that are more detailed to give the perfect path.

According to the developers their application can capture entire towns in just few weeks using their camera setup. And they are also planning to bring 3D data for the photos which would be more efficient than other maps. This one can really prove to be a best guide while travelling.

5. Move Networks

It is a kind of publishing system which facilitates the users with end-to-end services for encoding, streaming, editing and monetizing your video broadcast. It has been seen that some of the major TV networks are using this application to power their internet streaming services mainly the ABC, FOX, and The CW.  As stated by some expert it uses a QVT file to send little packets across the web and thus gives a non buffering experience to its users and it is scaled based on the speed of user’s connection.

These were the hottest technological innovations which have got a very huge user’s support and thus have acquired the rank of top position holders of Crunchies. All of them are really very fantastic in their working and such an advancement will really boost up future developments in technology.
