iPhone VS Blackberry

We are living in the age of very advance technology and this technology has influenced every field of our life either it is related to our homes or our personal life we have just shifted to a very technology oriented life. Among those technologies affecting our life and bringing innovations let’s talk about mobile phones. Now day’s smart phones have taken place of earlier handsets and they are bringing facilitation in every field of our life by their vast network. The two of the biggest competitors in the war of smart phones are the blackberry and Apple iPhone. Both are top class in their functionality and here I’ll discuss the differences among both as they are focusing on same line of thought. This article is not meant to promote one device over the other the main aim is just to see the difference in their approaches. Let’s start by discussing the functionality (which they both carry) one by one.

Physical attributes

Both of the smart phones are too dashing in their physical appearance. iPhone being the first ever sleek and stylish smart phone with an extra ordinary touch screen is capturing every one’s eye and on the other hand the blackberry is getting famous because of its dashing black body and full keyboard support. One thing about the iPhone’s screen is that it is very durable for crashes as after many crashes on the ground it only gets little scratches but the blackberry’s body gets scratched even when twisted on the table which is a fun for many people.

Email

Both the iPhone and blackberry are strong carriers of email facility and there is a slight difference in the performance. On the iphone we can say that the email facility is just second to none and this might be because of the new and fast web on the iphone. On the other hand sending and receiving emails is also not so difficult to manage on the blackberry the quality or we can say speed might be bit less than iPhone. Using a physical keyboard for typing messages is a plus point for blackberry as most of the people feels ease in typing on physical keyboard rather than on the touch screen. The blackberry’s capacity for the text messages and emails is also more than the iPhone’s.

Calendar

While scheduling the meetings or any other appointment on your phone you may find the iPhone is quite manual in its approach to the calendar and then adjusting/entering new appointments also takes some further clicks but the blackberry creates a default setting for meeting’s remainder so that every time a person won’t have to go to the calendar and enter schedule and repeat the manual process again.

Contacts

Like the above functionality iPhone is also pretty manual in calling someone. On iphone dialing someone’s name is rather tedious if they are not added in the favorites but the blackberry instantly starts typing the names and then searches the number by itself.

Business Connectivity

The blackberry lets you access the corporate emails, contacts and calendars whether your business uses Microsoft Exchange, IBM’s Lotus Notes, or Novell GroupWise, it will assist you by its extra cost blackberry enterprise server. And from the business point of view this is a best enterprise capable mobile platform.

The iPhone uses exchange ActiveSync for emails, contacts and calendars but sometimes it blocks user’s business applications like they can’t support exchange if encryption is set as an ActiveSync policy requirement.

Applications

The iPhone supports so many third party web applications that there is no match in the world for this much support. And apple is also enhancing its web applications by some new and exciting features. The blackberry has weakest selection of such applications and many of them are hard to use thus it has poor usability factor for the third part applications. iPhone also support unlimited formats for the documents and files but blackberry is a bit restrictive in this regard.

From the above analysis it can be said that none of them is better than the other as some of the facilities are superb in one set which other is lacking and then comes some facilities which are present in the second one but little lower at the first. Both are best competitors in the Smartphone industry and we can just say that security wise blackberry is better due to its encryption capable facility and thus if someone wants more security then he should buy blackberry but for the person who has little business work and more web work he should buy iPhone.

Features:

The handset features the top class design with a very beautiful glossy black body. The design might not be too much different from the 3G its inside where all the changes have happened, with Apple issuing a beefed-up CPU, new internal compass, larger capacities for storage, and improved optics for its camera.

More to the point, the release of the iPhone 3GS coincides with the launch of iPhone OS 3.0, a major jump from previous versions of the system software featuring highly sought after features like cut, copy, and paste, stereo Bluetooth, MMS, tethering, video recording, landscape keyboard options for more applications, and an iPhone version of Spotlight. At 3.5 inches and 480×320 pixels, the display is the same size as its predecessor, but displays slightly more dots per inch (163 vs.160), and still cranks out brilliant colors, sharp graphics, and fluid movements.

Limitations:

The iPhone’s 2-megapixel camera is one of the worst we have encountered, especially at this price point. The picture quality is average but it’s the bare-bones camera software that has disappointed us most. No flash, no auto-focus, no digital zoom, no adjustments in size or quality, no color filters. Other than that it lacks some very basic features like the life of the battery is very uneven. The 3G connection provided by the Apple iPhone is also very shaky. The synchronizing of the email has lots of faults associated with it.

2. Motorola Droid

Motorola has been never very consistent in providing the quality cell phones but with the DROID, the company has perhaps created its most attractive and intriguing piece of technology yet which will praised for years. At first glance you might not think that the Motorola Droid design amounts to much. Its build isn’t unique and the sharp angles result in a somewhat boxy look. But this is a Smartphone that holds a lot of surprises, the biggest being the positively gorgeous WVGA display and many more. The purchase of this cell phone has increased dramatically from the day when it was first launched.

Features:

The features of Droid are just fantastic it redefines the smart phone becoming the first device built with Android 2.0. On Droid you will experience a PC-like browsing experience on a mobile device that has a massive high-resolution display, the thinnest touch QWERTY slider available, and twice the speed of the leading competitor. If you’re wondering about performance, you can breathe a sigh of relief… kind of. Yes, there is a noticeable bump in speed when switching applications on the phone, scrolling through lists, and generally getting any basic tasks done.

At 0.54 inch thick, the Droid is slightly beefier than the 0.48-inch-thick iPhone 3GS, but it still has room for a 40-key, slide-out QWERTY keypad. At just under 6 ounces, it’s about an ounce heftier than the iPhone 3GS. When closed, the 4.56-by-2.36-inch Droid is almost the same size as the 4.5-by-2.4-inch iPhone 3GS.

Limitations:

One bad feature is that of the keyboard though many users will welcome a physical keyboard, but still some weren’t particularly impressed. The keys are flush and squashed next to each other, which makes it difficult to text quickly or by feel. Also, though the buttons do give a slight downward “push,” they’re a bit slick and people felt thrown off by the “dummy keys” on either end of the bottom row. The Droid is also missing physical Talk and End keys, which are pretty much standard on every other cell phone ever made. You must access these controls from the call application.

3. HTC Hero

The gadget award holder of this year The HTC Hero is just a magical mobile expressing all its features in a magical way. It is not just a mobile it’s your guide when you feel lost, it’s your messenger connecting you to your loved ones, your browser keep you connected to the whole world, and your play station and many more. Even from the earliest days of leaked hardware shots and blurry demo videos of its UI, Smartphone fans seemed to agree that the company had finally achieved what has been missing in the world of Android.

Features:

In terms of overall design and layout, the Hero is very much a product of evolution. Like its forebears the G1 (or Dream) and MyTouch (or Magic / Ion), the general stats like screen size, technology, and resolution, button placement, unit size and weight, and basic aesthetic are pure HTC. The Hero’s 5 megapixel camera is pretty darn amazing, we must say. Coming off of most devices with their paltry 3-or-so megapixel entries, it’s a real treat to have an onboard cam which can actually stand in for a proper shooter.

Limitations:

The phone is essentially limited to portrait use only; it would be nearly impossible to use the phone comfortably in landscape position because of the humongous “chin”. And also the arrangement of the keys [on the front] is very strange and looks like it will take some time to get used to.

N97:

N97 is a Touchscreen mobile phone, with a slide-out full QWERTY keypad, contained safely inside the sliding upper piece. It is the second Touchscreen phone by Nokia, first being 5800 Xpress Music.
