Freedom of Expression

In a meeting, Kapil Sibal has asked all the companies to screen material but unfortunately no action has been taken and companies has rejected this request of removal of offensive material with the answer that they have been working within the defined American standards of Freedom of Expression.

An analyst with Gartner Ray Valdes said, “I think Google has been trying to strike a balance between responding quickly to one big market demand — support for business presence on Google+ — versus bringing a fully-fleshed-out offering to the market. They are choosing not to wait until Google+ is fully decked out with important but secondary features, such as multi-admin support, account transfers, and audio file support.”

Facebook has competitive edge over Google+ on several aspects; right now businesses can’t offer deals, coupons and can’t sell products on Google+. Hopefully, after the launch of Google+ pages Google+ will also such opportunity to the users. Ray Valdes said, “Although Google is getting some criticism for gaps in the feature set, and things that perhaps should have been better thought out, I think that they likely would have gotten more heat for not responding at all to the need for business pages on Google+. Facebook has a more complete offering at the moment, but this is a fast-moving situation. Google and Facebook are not mutually exclusive choices. Many businesses have a blog, and a Twitter feed, and a Facebook page already, and now some portion of those will add a Google+ Page.”

Analysts are very optimistic about the success of Google+ and they are of the point of view that soon Google+ will be in head to head competition with Facebook. An analyst with IDC Hadley Reynolds said,  “Many businesses are just now diving into the social networking, which will give the company some time to get its act together, [Businesses] will clearly welcome a Google offering and a Google audience. So Google has time to take Pages through the revisions and additions process required to make the program truly usable and valuable.”

“Together we’ll create guidelines for how quickly devices will get updated after new android platforms and for how long they’ll continue to get updated.,”

He added further,

“New devices from these partners will receive the latest Android updates for 18 months after first launch, if the hardware allows it. We think this is really great news for users, we think it’s excellent for developers and really great for the entire industry.”

Director of engineering at Google ,Hiroshi Lockheimer said,

“We saw a lot of comments saying ‘I want my upgrade, when do I get my upgrade?’

“There’s no common expectation set of how this would work, so we can at least establish some form of expectation for the whole community – users and developers.

“We certainly want this to be an international, global thing. We announced Vodafone;you can expect another wave of announcements around that.”

Open Source Nature of Ice Cream Sandwich

Unlike Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the new OS Ice Cream Sandwich will be open source OS.
Senior vice president of Mobile at Google Andy Rubin said,

“It’s more manageable to start small and get bigger”

“It’s an open invitation; there’s no reason not to have everybody in [The Open Handset Alliance] – but I want to hit the ground running, I don’t want to take a lot of time on building a list of names.”

Google has also planned to launch a new set APIs for the developer. This step has been taken to make developers to be comfortable in designing the apps that will be compatible with both the smartphones and tablets.
