In many ways, the iPhone 3.0 is a mirror image of the iPhone 3G; externally there’s no difference. It’s inside where all the changes have happened, with Apple issuing a new internal compass, larger capacities for storage, and improved optics for its camera.

A major jump from previous versions of the system software featuring highly sought after features like cut, copy, and paste, stereo Bluetooth, MMS, tethering, video recording, landscape keyboard options for more applications, and an iPhone version of Spotlight. At a glance, what Apple seems to be doing is less a reinvention of the wheel. Here is a brief account of the new iPhone 3.0 features.

Phone

On iPhone, making a call is as simple as tapping a name or number. And Visual Voicemail plays messages in any order — just like email.

IPod:

With its 3.5-inch Multi-Touch display, iPhone is also one amazing iPod. Sync media from your Mac or PC or buy music and video on the go, then watch in widescreen.

Safari:

iPhone 3G S features Safari — the most advanced web browser ever on a mobile phone. Use it to surf the real web, really fast.

Mail:

Email on iPhone looks and acts just like email on your computer. And it works with the email accounts you already have.

Video Recording:

Shoot and edit a mini-masterpiece right on iPhone 3G S. Record high-quality video, trim it to the perfect length, and share it any way you want.

Photos:

With a 3-megapixel autofocus camera and a photo application that makes it easy to share, iPhone 3G S is the most photo-friendly phone ever.

Voice Control:

Making a call on iPhone has always been easy. With Voice Control, it’s even easier. Now you can make calls and play music using just the sound of your voice.

Messages:

With a chat-style view and an intelligent Multi-Touch keyboard that predicts and suggests words as you type, iPhone texts smarter than any smartphone.

Map + Compass:

Maps on iPhone combines everything you love about Google Maps with the accuracy of GPS and a built-in digital compass.

Keyboard:

The intelligent keyboard on iPhone does far more than a fixed keyboard ever could. With this keyboard at your fingertips, typing is easy and incredibly fast.

Cut, Copy, Paste:

Leave it to iPhone to reinvent the way you cut, copy, and paste words and images. Multi-Touch makes it faster and easier than ever.

Search:

Search across your iPhone with Spotlight. Or search inside Contacts, Mail, Calendar, and Notes.

Voice Memos:

Capture a thought, a memo, a meeting, or any audio recording with Voice Memos. When you’re done, edit your recording, then email it or send it via MMS.

Accessibility:

Making a revolutionary mobile phone means making it easy for everyone to use. That’s why iPhone 3G S comes standard with accessibility features that help people with disabilities experience all that iPhone has to offer.

Tathering:

Now you can share the fast 3G connection on your iPhone with your Mac or PC and connect to the Internet from just about anywhere — no Wi-Fi required.

App Store:

Discover tens of thousands of apps that let you do even more with your iPhone. Browse apps in categories from games to business, finance to fitness, and more.

itunes:

Shop the iTunes Store — the world’s largest online music store — from your iPhone. Download songs, movies, TV shows, and more..

Home screen:

Home screens give you one-tap access to everything on iPhone — even when you’re on a call. Customize your Home screens with your favorite applications and websites.

Toolbars might be fussy for people, but there are people who like the feasibility of required features at hand. Google toolbar is liked by the users for its functionality level, and for the performance it renders. Now, Google has added to the charm by adding three new features to its toolbar which will improve and enhance its standard. These newly added features are well known “Labs”, “My Location” and “Simplified Chinese” feature.

“Labs” has been popular since it was introduced in the Gmail where it helped the users to perform many striking actions e.g. saving the mails, archiving them and having multiple email inboxes at a same page. “Google Labs” has also gained significant popularity amongst masses, and this is why a huge applaud from users is expected at the advent of Labs in Google toolbar. This is important to know that this feature can only be availed if you are using Internet Explorer.

In Sep 2008, “My Location” was launched for mobiles. Afterwards, this function was brought to computers when the increase in usage of portable computers was noticed. With this feature on your toolbar, automatically the Google Maps and the included Maps gadget will position themselves at the user’s current location. Search for a Mexican Cuisine and you will get the results that will be closest to your location.

The simplified Chinese feature will allow the users to translate the page with a single click, along with the ability to manage bookmarks in a new side bar. As the Labs versions are not well tested like beta versions; they may work not as efficiently as is being anticipated.
