So from time to time Skpe ripe and ripe and saw a 26% increase in profits during last quarter, but despite that great success, we don’t know why eBay (the parent company) is considering getting rid of its cash-cow and want to tie it at Google’s door, the rumor mill at its best.
However, if one looks at eBay’s posted financial results, these rumors don’t seem as rumors, but facts. According to the company’s financial results, their profits decreased 7% in the previous quarter that traditionally serves as the busiest quarter to the retailers. Indeed, they were worse-than-expected results from the retailer.
“Recently eBay has admitted that its $2.6billion Skype purchase during 2005 was quite enough. Logically, there isn’t any logical integration between the auction site and the telephony service and again the rumors regarding possible sales are once again intensifying,” a report in Guardian says.
Similarly, the Times report says that John Donahoe, eBay’s Chief Executive has told some analysts that: “There are minimal synergies in Skype and some parts of our portfolio.”
US telecos Verizon and AT&T have also been mentioned as possible buyers in this report, while on the other hand, The Guardian says that: “Google has been taking interest in Skype purchase since November 2007.”
