Introduction: Is it a tablet? Is it a phone?
The big question that many Sony users are asking about its new phone; Sony Xperia Z Ultra is, “Is it a phone, or is it a tablet?” Well, it is whatever that you wish for it to be. Many are calling it a phablet. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a phone with a 6.4 inch screen, which makes surfing, watching movies and taking pictures an amazing experience. Who wouldn’t want to watch movies in HD on this phone?
Xperia Z is currently available in three colors, black, white and purple. It has an 8 mega pixel camera, which could have been a lot better, considering the price that it has been set for. It has 4G connectivity that makes its performance faster and data downloads even faster. You get all this in a slim and sleek phone. It will be running on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Operating Software. It is said to be powered by quad-core Qualcomm with 2.2 GHz and Snapdragon of 800 processor supported via a 2GB RAM. The phablet features Adreno 330 graphics and chipset Qualcomm MSM8974.
Is the huge size of the phone an issue?
It measures about 92 mm wide, 179 mm long and 6.5mm thick. With these measurements, it is hard to deal with this phone with one hand.
You will definitely require two hands to use it efficiently and the size might become a big hindrance when there are emergencies or any other kind of urgencies. Also, you should seriously consider carrying this around everywhere. And before taking it anywhere you need to think twice if it’s something you can carry on any of your hiking trips, clubbing etc.
The phone is waterproof, which means that you will not get chills, when your friends or even you, accidently splash water on it.
As far as the storage is concerned, the phone has 16GB of capacity for its users, which is not a lot. However do not lose hope as the Xperia Z Ultra has a SD card slot, so that you save your favorite music videos, movies and just plain audios on it as well.
It has depth of 16 M. At 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, makes Xperia Z Ultra a first class HD phone. It is truly an amazing experience watching your favorite movies on this thing. The sharp, crisp and tight pixels packed together make it more fun to watch. The icons are sharper as compared to other versions like Xperia Z 1 Ultra.
The bright screen and the remarkable colors make it fun to swipe through your shows or movies. There is also an option; ‘enhancer’ in the settings option. This is meant to enhance the quality of your chosen image. However many people have felt that the images can do without it. As it tends to make the pictures look fake (unrealistic) and oversaturated. Hence the phone can easily do without this little boost.
Other Existing Rivals
In other news, the big word around town is that LG is launching its own 6.4 inch phablet; which is supposed to give Xperia Z Ultra a run for its money. It will have similar specifications to that of the Xperia Z Ultra, with the 8 mp camera and HD display. There are rumors that the phone or phablet will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat. Galaxy Note 3 is another existing rival of the Xperia Z Ultra.
The phone is priced at a hefty $699 at the moment, which is actually quite expensive for the Xperia Z Ultra.
