Sony has recently introduced new P-Series Life Style PC in Sony Vaio Brand; a stylish, slim, sleek and light-weighed net book. It is compared to none in the market. The only VAIO P Series model currently listed on the Sony Electronics website is the VGN-P598E/Q.
Sony asserts that this is “world’s lightest notebook”, the weight being 1.4 pounds; making the holder feel as if he’s carrying an empty case. It is as slender as a mobile phone, and longer than usual net books; with dimensions 9.7×4.7×0.8 inches.
This new miniature laptop is built in plastic. It has an 8 inches 16:9 display, at a resolution of 1600×768, with an option of lowering down the resolution. There is a zooming function present in P-series, which helps those who have eye-sight problems. Picture quality is splendid. Due to wider screen, there is almost no possibility of scrolling side-ways while browsing internet.
Sony has eliminated the traditional touchpad in this notebook, and replaced it with a joystick-like nub, snuggled in the heart of the keyboard for controlling the cursor. If the user faces trouble handling this new cursor-control, Sony gives the option of connecting to a wireless Bluetooth mouse for better functioning.
Sony Vaio P series has a wider aluminum keyboard, with finely spaced keys; enabling the typist to avoid errors. According to officials at Sony, this key spacing is specifically designed for longer fingernails.
It has Windows Vista Premium or Business Edition as operating system, which is reportedly working slowly. It has an unspecified Intel processor at 1.33GHz with a 533MHz front side and 512KB of L2 cache. The VAIO P598E comes with 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 128GB solid state drive, Intel’s GMA 500 integrated graphics, and Memory Stick Duo and SD card readers.
Many connectivity options are there like 2 USB ports, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and sim-free 3G HSDPA modem. Also there is a hardware Wi-Fi off/on control. Now, one can put whole internet in one’s pocket. No concession has been made by the manufacturers when it comes to internet; user experiences classic PC internet, by chatting, web surfing, researching, shopping, and streaming videos.
The notebook supports GPS navigation. User’s existing location is found when asked for directions, and paths are shown on the screen along with the time.
It comes with a built in web cam, though it isn’t located right in the middle of upper column. It is situated on the left side of the screen, but not at an awkward angle to make video chat impossible.
The XMP permits users to boot directly into the menu, and gives access to media, photos, web browsing and instant messaging. This Cross Media Bar button is located below the keyboard.
This notebook provides up to four hours of battery life with 3-cell and up to eight hours with 6-cell battery.
Vaio P is available in some stunning shades including Garnet Red, Emerald green, Onyx Black, Classic Black and Crystal White. Matching leather cases are also available.
Product Unique Selling Points:
- It is a light-weight laptop, with ultra-thin built, perfect for keeping in one’s purse or jacket pocket.
- This laptop has a very wide screen, which eliminates any need to scroll side-ways.
- It has a wide keyboard with nicely spaced keys for better typing.
- Unlike other net books, it comes with a built in GPS, mobile broadband and an instant-on mode.
- It is stylish and iconic, with Sony’s unique and elegant design; an eye-catcher; a fashion
statement.
Limitations:
- Vista has a slow performance.
- The built-in GPS does not acquire signals quickly.
- While working, the bottom gets warm, thus makes handling difficult.
- The little joy stick like cursor-controller is situated in the middle of keyboard. Getting scrolled and clicked, accidentally, during typing, creates lot of complexity.
- Perhaps the worst negative point of Vaio P is its cost. The notebook is Highly-priced, and seems to be created only for those who can give anything to get a new stylish gadget.
Sony has come up with yet another trendy and petite gadget, one-of-its-kind Vaio P. only if the price floats down a little, this miniature-PC will become a universal sweetheart.
