Though Sony Ericsson’s W302 is one of the low cost phones in Walkman range, its looks are nothing inferior to today’s high-end extra costly mobiles like Sony Ericsson’s W890, with all the necessary array of cell phone basics present in the gadget.
As a marketing tactic, the stylish and slim hand set is designed after extremely popular handsets with lowered hardware specifications to fit the cost. The sleekness of 10.5mm is shouting with an aluminum plated facade that exudes it a quality look. The phone is extra light and trim with just 78 grams ensuring easy pocket bearing.
Though the vivid LCD with 262,000 colors is not sufficient for displaying high res movies, and the resolution is just 220×176 pixels, one never gets a feeling of insufficiency with the display. The design is an outstanding ergonomic success as the compressed keyboard gives a soothing feeling of pliability though its looks are comparatively less impressive. Though the buttons are small, smart shape and proper spacing makes it super fun to go around.
The same formula of marvelous looks with just humbly reasonable features is applied to the walkman aspect. Though, the headphones are not costly or high spec, the ones present are not bad at all with quite controlled soundstage. For an extra inquisitive listener, the upgrading choice is there with 3.5mm headphone jack adaptor. The equalizer is laden with cool 10 audio boosters. Another costly feature missing is shake control but it seems to be successfully redeemed by more useful five-band graphic equalizer adjustable manually or through ten preset levels.
One exquisite feature that is unexpectedly available is the TrackID, through which you can identify mystery tracks you hear around you or on the in-built W302′s FM radio. The basic memory is meager 20MB but one can enhance it to 512MB through Memory Stick Micro card. The phone can even handle up to 4GB cards, so the more hardliner muso fanatic can stack up around 1,000 plus average sized MP3s.
The 2 megapixel humble camera with resolution up to 1600×1200 pixels, is still better than many others with similar price tags. A frequent traveler is bound to love this gadget for its musicality, but the absence of 3G connection and Wi-Fi too renders the browser sluggish for downloading tracks or games.
One can safely say that W302 is an excellent choice for a mobile music fan with restricted budget.
