Features:

It can capture memories without tapes or a disc as it consists of a 60GB built-in hard disk drive. It delivers around 14 to 41 hours of recording depending on the settings of the video quality. It is so lightweight and compact in design that enables users to capture pictures with great ease. It weighs only 14 ounces along with the battery and height is around 3.1 inches and width is 4.5 inches. The design of the body has also been improved from its last releases like DCR-SR82. It is so small in size that it can be adjusted in a very little space of your bag while you are going for a travel trip. Within a very few seconds the camcorder start recording from the very off position.

In this DCR- SR85 model instead of putting separate modes and recording controls, it has all the controls like power, movie, and still dial just below your thumb. Above it there is an activity lights filled up by a Quick On button which helps the camcorder to bring quickly in and out of the standby mode. On the very top there is a camera shutter button in case you want to take the still pictures too. Apart from it, it also holds a rocker switch for the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 25x zoom lens. Unfortunately this model has no optical image stabilization therefore tripod is must to capture any close up images.

A stereo zoom microphone is situated just above the lens in the front side. It helps to capture the sound of the subject. There is a switch situated under the lens to open or close the built-in lens cover. However, the jacks for mic or the headphone are missing in this model. It also has a mini port for the USB connect and an AV out on the right hand side in a sliding door. There is one more sliding door on the top which contains Memory Stick Pro Duo card slot. Another flip-down door sits below the main control dial for keeping the power cable. A switch for a night shot plus infrared light which is used to shot pictures in complete darkness or very dim light is hidden inside the grip of the camera. All these sliding doors and flip-down door hides all the switches and cables thereby offer a very clean look to this camcorder.

You can go through all menu options from the 2.7” touch panel LCD color display. There is an option for 2 menu systems namely “Home menu” and “Options menu”. The “Home menu” is used to get all feature settings and the other one the “Options menu” is used to go directly to the available functions for video and stills like white balance, focus, and different recording modes.

The auto focus, white balance, and auto exposure is very good in this model which adds to the overall performance of the camcorder. When compared it with SR45, quality of SR85 is far better. SR85 has a 1 megapixels CCD sensor while SR45 has only 680,000 pixels.
