Nokia has probably hit the right chord with the creation of N85 and it has managed to keep up with the look as well as the feel that all N series handsets are known to possess. Initially, N95 made an impact on all that was expected to come from a typical high-end phone. However the new Nokia N85 is filled with all the connectivity and the design has some minor changes and it seems to be getting better with each upgrade.
Design
For anyone who has ever used the N series handsets before would certainly feel that the N85 has a small footprint when held in hand. The curvy edges of the phone help in adding to the smaller impression. The phone is equipped with the QVGA screen and has a key difference in the OLED display. The newer displays are known to consume very less power.
The texting is easy and the display comes across as being simply brilliant. The light sensor that is located on the side of the front camera serves the purpose of adjusting the brightness that would suit the light. The N85 is also equipped with the 2mm port for charging just like the other models of the N series.
Features
The N85 is stuffed with a number of features and carried the support for the tri-band HSDPA, Bluetooth stereo as well as the GPS. Along with the 5MP camera, it also supports the LED flash and a FM transmitter. The storage capacity of the phone is 8GB and the only difference would be the screen size. There is a microSD memory expansion card slot. As far as the interface is concerned, there is the standard S60 3rd edition.
However, the features that play an important role in promoting the N85 are the Flickr, Vox and Ovi. At the time of our review, we could easily log into our Flickr and Ovi accounts. Such services allow you to readily upload the images, multimedia and other videos and help the users in sharing them with their friends and family members. At the same time as these services lure a lot of consumers, they would need to have a sizeable data plan to make the best use of these features. Some of the other applicatios that come pre-installed with the unit are Search, QuickOffice, PDf reader, Maps, Zip Manager and a unique application updater.
Performance
The battery is equipped with the 1,200 mAh cell that enables about 7 hours of talk time and can sustain at least 15 days of standby. On the whole, the users can get almost 2 days of use. You can also connect the device to the PC for additional charges and hence that comes as an added advantage.
