Apple has introduced its iMac, the all in one computer system. It is design plus functionality, beauty plus performance and style plus computing. The flat screen LCD monitors and Intel core 2 Duo processors are just the highlight.
It comes in 2 sizes, 20” and 24”. The 20” iMac has 18.5×19.1×7.4 inches while the 24” iMac 20.5×22.4×8.1 inches dimensions. Weight is 20 and 25.4 pounds. There are 6 USB ports; 4 on computer and 2 on keyboard. The glossy widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid crystal display comes in 20 (with 1680 by 1050 pixels resolution) and 24 inches (with 1920 by 1200 pixels resolution).It has 2.66GHz, 2.93GHz, or 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 6 MB shared L2 cache at full processor speed and 1066MHz front side bus, also there are 2GB (two 1GB SO-DIMMs) or 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB. Hard drive is the Serial ATA.
Communications include built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking, built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet.
Audio is impeccable with built-in stereo speakers, internal 24-watt digital amplifier, headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack), audio line in/optical digital audio input (minijack), built-in microphone, and support for Apple Stereo Headset with microphone.
The cheapest two iMacs have an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor, with the top range model enjoying an NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 GPU with 512MB memory.
Bright, sharp and beautiful display is the hallmark of iMac. Materials used in the making are highly recyclable. The frame is of anodized aluminum and cover is of glass. Stand of the 24” iMac can be removed and the LCD can be planted on your room wall. Keyboard is also made up with anodized aluminum and the modest keys are nicely placed. The computer is made with a single aluminum piece. It is complimented further with an almost-invisible webcam.
iMac features a flat-panel LCD screen with 1680-by-1050 resolution (20-inch) or 1920-by-1200 resolution (24-inch), providing you vibrant colors and magnificent high-definition lucidity. Core 2 Duo processors run at minimum 2.66GHz and boost your computer’s speed. With up to 4GB of 1066MHz DDR3 memory standard and a Serial ATA hard drive up to 1TB, more memory storage is available. CDs and DVDs can be burnt via a slot-loading super drive. High-speed 802.11n wireless technology, Time Capsule and AirPort Express Base Station is built into iMac.
There is a long list of software, which are included in the iMac. Some of the most prominent are Safari web browser, Mail, Address Book and iCal, iChat, iPhoto, iMovie, iWork ’09, Office, MobileMe, Time Mchine and Boot Camp.
This is an environment friendly computer, as the materials used to manufacture it are highly recyclable. It has an Arsenic-free display glass. iMac is BFR-free, PVC-free, meets Energy Star version 5.0 requirements, and is rated EPEAT Gold.
