Xbox 360

It has been today that Microsoft will bring a new add-on 250GB hard disk drive for the Xbox 360 in Japan. The exact release of the drive will be held in March 11 and the cost will go till ¥15,540 (US$172).  Before this release Microsoft has not given a 250GB HDD for the Xbox 360 as a standalone unit and for the first time in history it is going to do so. A spokes man by Microsoft in Tokyo has also declared that “Microsoft has no current plans to put it on sale as a stand-alone unit outside of Japan”.

The drive which the company is going to reveal is used to store downloaded software, TV shows, movies, and some other content from Microsoft Xbox live marketplace online store. It also seems that local storage on the console is becoming more important to Microsoft as it attempts to expand its online store and generate additional revenue from the entertainment content. The year of 2009 proved to be the very good for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft ended the year with 29 million users, up 35 percent from the last day of 2008, which really sounds to be an exciting figure. Expanding the space of the drive from 120GB to 250 will definitely prove to be a good one from Microsoft and it is expected to attract more users.
