LG Shared Plans of actions about Cinema 3D and Smart TV

All the manufacturers of 3D TV are planning new strategies to produce the enhanced versions of 3D panels; the most eminent among them are the Toshiba and LG, which are implementing 3D expertise to work around concerns like gleaming eyewear. Toshiba has planned to launch large glasses-free displays in the mid of 2011, on the other hand LG has lately launched newest 3D TVs which features passive 3D eyewear and function of smart TV.

Ks Lee Throws light on LG Plans

On a question about the root cause of LG’s decision to move from active to passive 3D technology he said, “Like our competitors, we tried to sell 3D TVs with shutter glasses last year, but the final result was disappointing. The original market forecast was about 10 million units and only 2.5 millions sets were sold globally. We studied why people were not buying 3D TVs and found out that active shutter glasses were uncomfortable, heavy, caused dizziness and expensive too at up to US$200 each. LG film patterned retarder technology was then developed to resolve most of these problems.”

LG has strong competitive edge over its competitors i.e. it is the one and only maker of FPR panels which are supplied to Vizio, Toshiba and Philips. FPR technology is formulated by LG and it is also facilitating its competitors with this state-of-the-art technology.

A part from Cinema 3D TVs, LG has also planned a broaden horizon towards innovative use of high-tech technologies in its upcoming products, glasses-free 3D TVs are among them, which LG have planned to launch in next 3-5 years. Delay is because of excessive manufacturing cost as 3D content is already running short, that’s why LG will come up with this in coming years.
