In Short: Every now and then we find something touted as iPhone slyer, but most of them often seem coming up short and prove quite little in front of the current king of ring. However, some can really give iPhone tough times and HTC Magic is one of them. With a sleek, smooth and simple design, it features a 3.0mp camera, GPS, Qualcomm CPU, HSDPA, GPS and Wi-Fi.

The first Android-powered GI was quite nagging as well as boring for many, as it missed features like stereo Bluetooth, camera without video recording and the most perplexing thing was its design. Though you would find the same 3.2” display, yet some new tricks have been introduced that makes the magic quite appealing and a real white magic for those who want better functionality in their cell phones with sleek design and impressive look.

The Good

  • Exceptional touchscreen
  • Large number of free apps
  • Impressive design

The Bad

  • Limited storage for apps
  • Not so up to the mark battery life
  • No 3.5mm headphone jack

The Usual:

Design

The thing that grabs your attention in the very first look and feel is its lightness in weight and thinness in structure and no availability of QWERTY keyboard has played an important role to get that thinness and sleekness in looks that make the Magic really mesmerizing. You may have heard a lot about black magic, but white magic also exists and if you want to look in concrete form, the HTC Magic is a real thing for you, as it’s not less than a true white magic. The nicest thing unlike many other present day smartphones, you can keep it easily in your pocket the whole day long without notice and you would find it a small tub of lard that makes your pocket hang all the time.

Specs and Features

  • It weighs 118.5g with 117.7x55x13.7mm dimensions
  • 2G and 3G network for GSM and HSDPA.
  • 3.2-inches TFT display with 320×480 pixels
  • MP3, downloadable polyphonic WAV ringtones
  • Speakerphone
  • MicroSD card slot
  • 512 MB ROM and 192 MB RAM
  • GPRS data
  • Bluetooth
  • No infrared port
  • miniUSB
  • Video calling
  • Android Operating System
  • HTML browser
  • SMS, Email, MMS, and IM for messaging
  • Document viewer
  • Voice memo
  • MP3 player

quite easier to slide around the page in an easy and nice way. The same tightness of Google’s app integration can be felt as in the G1. But StreetView addition in the function of the apps seems to work nicely.

It is easy to access and use Android Market, but it has to be even further easier to fight well against the Apple App Store that has been serving as a cash cow for Apple for quite some time and considering the very success of Apple App Store, now some other players are looking for developing their own such app stores.

The thing that makes HTC Magic somewhat inferior is the lack of QWERTY keyboard, but its impressive touchscreen seems to compensate the missing of the QWERTY keyboard.

Unique Selling Points

  • Impressive sleek design and light weight
  • Nice touchscreen
  • Lots of free apps

I think that HTC Magic is a touch phone for people who strive to explore each and every thing around them.So you can easily know that what’s hot and what’s not, when you stay connected with Gmail/Google Mail, Maps & Search. And you’ll always find more to enhance your phone with the constantly updated selection of applications at the Android Market.

For sure, it is lot prettier that T-Mobile’s G1.
