GPS

The technological advancement in today’s world has made everything accessible at your fingertips and the new technologies are so intelligent that they can guide you into an unknown place as well. A GPS has been released from the past few years and this device is just remarkable in its performance and with this device in hands you can never feel lost. The GPS (global positioning system) is composed of orbiting satellites and GPS receivers. To provide an accurate fix of your current location the device must direct lines of sight to at least three satellites so that if the network of one fails the others can guide you to your destination.

The common portable GPS easily available are the two: one which is handheld thus easy to carry in your pocket and the second which can be mounted on the dashboard. Now days you will come across plenty of GPS devices for you and to choose one that suits your requirements is really a difficult job and as this is a prevailing technology so anyone can dodge you by giving some low quality that is even not fit for you.

In this article I’ll discuss some guidelines which can prove to be helpful in buying a best fit GPS for you. Before going into the details always remember one thing that you should be well aware of your requirements and budget so always try to go for a device that suits both otherwise it would be a waste of money and nothing else.

1. First of all look for the map coverage capability of the GPS device, as the one sold in US typically include detailed street maps for the entire country and if you travel outside US then you should go for that GPS device which has additional maps for other territories. The handheld GPS is very bad in displaying the maps and they mostly give you the longitude and latitude so for a more clear guideline go for a dashboard GPS. 3D is a new technology to the GPS but it is more better formal maps as they give you more clear vision of the track so if you know nothing about the place you are travelling then it’s better to get a 3D modeled map.

2. The second important factor to consider is the screen size, if you are buying a dashboard GPS than you should go for a large screen device because it’ll give clear directions while driving and there won’t be a need to bent first to see the map and then drive as it is the case with the handheld GPS. And if the screen size is coming with a touch screen capability than it is better than anything but the buttoned display is not really bad at all.

3. Another important feature of these devices is the turn-by-turn directions which prompt you at the turns and guide you either to turn right or left. In the beginning these guidelines were given as the texts appearing on the screen but now text has been replaced by the voice, the voice guidelines to turn left or right is better as compared to the texts. Although voice guideline is a new feature but it is available in the low cost devices so don’t hesitate to ask for this functionality in the low cost devices as well.

4. The memory is another facility to consider while buying, in these devices memory is used to load detailed telegraphic maps, street maps or additional way points to the receiver. Detailed maps require a great deal of memory so for more assistance try to go for one having high memory.

5. Channels also need your interest as channels determine the number of satellite signals the GPS can receive simultaneously. Low cots devices have 12 channels and the high cost ones have 24 channels. It can be easily said that more the number of channels in the device the better the efficiency.

These were some of the guidelines or I can say the factors which should be kept in mind while buying a GPS device. But these are not all things which should be kept in mind many others features also need your interest so before buying a GPS for you always do some net surfing regarding the specifications and functioning of the GPS device and you’ll get enough information for your assistance.
