Google Street View may be criticized by overactive privacy mongers or conspiracy theorists, but it really proved miraculous as the US Police dramatically found an allegedly abducted 9-year-old girl Natalie through the help of this service.

The girl taken away by her own grandmother on Saturday on the weekend outing pretext, was recovered by Massachusetts police, taking help from the coordinates of her mobile phone. The officers found that the phone’s coordinates were coming in within 300 feet of each other at a Virginia intersection. As the signals were located in Massachusetts, and they couldn’t drive to the other side of town to take a look, they resorted to Google.

“The old lady was determined not to return the child and to make it sure she left the state”, Athol police officers Timothy Anderson and Todd Neale shared with newsmen.

The Google Street View enabled the officers to observe the vicinity of the Virginia intersection and a hotel which were the pivot of the location. The service had pointed to a large multiple storied hotel nearby, where Virginia state police were able to grab the grandma with the child.

Since 2005, US law binds mobile phone service providers to be able to locate 67% of callers within 100 meters and 95% of callers within 300 meters range.
