Google Apps for Government
The internet giant has now expanded its services for the help of government, yesterday at a press event at Google’s headquarters; the company announced that it has received FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) certification and this will allow Google to store sensitive information that makes up about 80%of the government’s data.
The company has also announced that it has built a segregated physical set of servers for Gmail and calendaring for the government customers and some other applications will also be released on the servers for the aid of government related works.
According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who made a cameo at the press event “For years, enterprises have all faced the same issues with data management, systems updates, aging infrastructures and security. The demand, for a new way is enormous and that the certification from the government is yet another barrier that’s been broken down.”
This is a fact that trust factor is very important for the government agencies and if Google has been given this trust then its company’s duty to maintain that trust by sharing the data safely between third party vendors and that’s really not as easy as it seems.
