Facebook Launches Fresh User Homepage

Facebook has launched its fresh real time user homepage, which focuses on updating “News Feed”. News Feed has been replaced by “stream”; which is a real time updated version of the former. Upgraded homepage gives a new look as well as improved filter system.
This update seems to be a result of Twitter-rivalry. Twitter provides its users with real time updates from their friends and mates. Facebook operators appear to be very impressed with the twitter system of immediate updating, and thus have tried to reproduce one in their own social networking.
Previous “What are you doing now” has been substituted by Facebook’s Publisher Interface, which allows users to share their personal photos, links, application activities and current status with their community.
Old News Feed has been replaced by side bar Highlights, which show previous stories from user’s friends, specifically those that can be more interesting for the user. This is because of the real time updating system as fresher stories will keep on taking place of older ones.
This new page chiefly features conversations among friends, which looks as twitter influence. User needs to refresh the page for getting real time updates, because the page is not updated as news feed comes. Also, one can filter friends’ list, and maintain news feed. Those who you do not want to appear in your stream can be easily ousted of the updates. Public pages have gotten a look more like a user profile page, also.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says:
“Once you have a connection with someone through stream, over the life time of that connection there are clearly going to be many impressions delivered, many clicks. Eventually having a connection with someone could be considered a metric itself.”
