The email which was once considered to be the main source of connecting people is now getting older and this thing has been reported by the Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and according to him email is soon becoming obsolete just like that of written letters and telegraphs. He was actually speaking at the Nielsen Consumer 360 conference and while talking about this issue, he discussed how teenagers are using the email less and less.
According to the statements he provided while talking to the crowd “I hate to be the bearer of bad news but in consumer technology, if you want to know what people like us will do tomorrow, you look at what teenagers are doing today. “ and further “And the latest figures say that only 11 percent of teenagers e-mail daily. So e-mail — I can’t imagine life without it — is probably going away. So what do teenagers do? They SMS and increasingly, they use social networking.”
Basically he was trying to say that social networks have taken the place of emails, just like previously we have seen that emails had taken the place of written letters. Though he was not talking on the basis of some particular research but being the COO of Facebook he knows that how the teenagers are nowadays connecting to each other.
