The Dell V305w multi-functionality printer is inexpensive and appealing in various ways. It serves the purpose of all three functions of scanning, printing, and copying in a very compact device with a very easy to use buttons. One of the coolest features in V305W is that it can be wirelessly connect with your home network. No tension of meshing with cables. Dell offers this model in the price range of $129. It is really a great buy with its multi-function solution which provides a 1200 x 2400 dpi scanning along with a full range copier.

One of the reasons for a low price of this printer is that there is no auto document feeder as well as fax machine. However, the cost of the replacement cartridges will be really pinching. Cartridges cost are very high and moreover the printer eats ink like anything. But one thing that is good about this device is that its DIMS that is Dell Ink Management System will never let you live without ink. DIMS will track the number of pages you used for printing and it will issue an alert if the replacement is needed.

By looking at Dell V305W for the first time, it will appear as very simple in overall design; it is not at all fashionable. The outer surface is consisting of glossy white with matte black panels.  Even the control panel is very simple and basic. It consists of seven recessed buttons which sits below the two-line of LCD display. It allows the easy navigation of the menus and let you manage different features which are available on this device. Just below the 2 ink cartridges bay there are 2 ports for the memory cards and a PictBridge USB port for direct printing by a compatible digital camera without even switching on your computer. You can use memory cards like MS, SD, xD, CF, MMC, and MD. There is no Ethernet port on this printer which will not allow you to use it as a print server. However, you can use this printer by wirelessly connect it by using the internal network adapter, which is installed on the back of the printer.  There are 2 more ports on the back of the device which supports to directly connect the power brick and a USB cable with your computer.

Since there is no auto document feeder available in this printer, you have to place pages only on the hundred sheet front loading tray.  There is a small arm in the feeder which the users can adjust if they put pages of different sizes. This model also lacks a separate tray for holding photo paper which other models have.

To set up the printer to communicate wirelessly is a tough job, but thank God Dell has nicely provided step by step procedure for the set up. However, we always recommend you to first establish the USB connection, and when this prompts the driver for setting up the ad-hoc wireless connection in between printer and the computer. That’s all, you are up and printer is ready.  Dell V305W comes with the installation CD which has a preinstalled driver. It will help you a lot to configure the network settings. However, you can trust your printer to take care of the rest which includes the pairing of the 2 devices. It only takes less than 10 minutes to complete this process from starting till the end.

Dell V305 have two separate cartridges one for tricolor and the other one for black & white inks. Printer comes with the standard capacity cartridges in the box itself. However, if you need one, you can also order high capacity cartridges directly from the company’s website. Normally, $25 high capacity color cartridge prints around 230 pages. Hence the cost of printing for a single page will cost you around 9.2 cents.

If we see its performance on the speed, the Dell V305w can print the black text at the very powerful rate of 7.82 pages per minute (PPM). It is almost the double in the speed if we compared it with many other printers at the same price range.  It also scans full black and white pages with graphics at really faster speed.

The driver of Dell V305w also provides options to choose the printing at 1200 or 4800 dpi resolution. However, if you do not choose any resolution, it will automatically choose the 4800 dpi when you load papers in the document feeder.

Dell offers standard 1 year warranty for this product. However, you can also extend your standard warranty at an additional cost. You will find the information and pricing of the extended warranty period directly on the website. But for getting that information, you need to register for a service tag.  The FAQ’s on the Dell’s support page is really great. It mostly covers all the probable questions of the products.
