Dell Inspiron Mini 9 was one of the most anticipated mini-notebooks prior to its launch in the market. With a relatively small footprint, Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor, sleek design, and a tailored Ubuntu OS, Inspiron Mini 9 has the specifications for making it a popular product. Its ability of configuring the system is even better, whether you consider the 1GB RAM, solid state drive’s size (16GB) or resolution of its webcam (1.3). However, its keyboard is something that can be disappointing for most users.

Classy Appearance

In spite of the cost being below $350 (starting range), glossy black look of Inspiron Mini 9 is far from cheap. Rounded lid of the notebook sports a wonderful finish, which attracts smudges and light fingerprints. Its classy look is extended below the hood, as it has a smooth-coating, screen bezel and silver-palm rest.

Size matters to Dell

Inspiron Mini 9 is amongst the lightest and smallest 8.9″ mini-notebooks in the market. It measures 9.1″ x 6.8″ x 1.3″ and weighs slightly over 2 lbs. With a weight of only 2.6 lbs including its AC adapter, the mini-notebook is going to feel non-existent when you’ll toss it in your purse.

Glossy Screen & Loud Sound in Speaker

The glossy screen, with 1024×600 pixels, offers enough real estate for fitting windows to size. At the same time, it’ll look sharp from different angles. You’ll find the colors of all media files to be bright. Above its display, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 has a 1.3 Megapixel webcam that provides clear image for videoconferencing. Its speakers have been placed below the display on the bottom of the bezel. Although speakers are small in size, yet they pump out loud volume when compared to other mini-notebooks.

Awkward Keyboard, yet Solid Track pad

Spill-resistant keyboard of Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is solidly built and provides proper tactile feedback with little flex. While its keys are comfortable for typing and might not cramp your hands, they’re considerably smaller in size. You might also find the positioning of some of its keys to be awkward. Shrunken Right-Shift key positioned right of the ‘Up’ arrow button and bottom location of ‘apostrophe (‘)’ might cause trouble to touch typists till they get adjusted. However, its touchpad is decently-sized and offers a comfortable feel. You might also like using its 2 mouse buttons located under the touchpad.

Dell has come up with a solid mini-notebook in the form of Inspiron Mini 9. It is good for kids and offers plenty for mobile professionals. Although it might not be perfect, but does provide terrific design at an affordable rate.

Product Unique Selling Point:

  • Size: Measures: 9.1″ x 6.8″ x 1.3″ & weighs 2lbs without AC adapter
  • Screen & Volume: Glossy Screen with enough real estate and speaker emitting loud volume considering its small size.
  • Touch Pad: Decently-sized & comfortable feel
  • Price: Below $350. Very low considering the available features

Mini notebooks are great for lugging around places. They’re light and little. And Intel’s Atom 1.6 ghz processor is a pretty sweet innovation. It’s a lot more energy efficient, so the battery will last longer. However mini laptops are less capable of powerful work, and slower too… they are quite convenient though.
