Two years back when Cowon launched its D2 MP3 player it soon became popular because of its somewhat exceptional sound quality, nice touchscreen and lasting battery. Now after two years, Cowon has decided to bring something for you even lot more refined audio quality and better touchscreen interface. Aside from all these impressive additions, the nicest thing is its awesomely reasonable price tag, as you can get the 8GB version in $139 and 16GB in $179. Let’s talk about whether it deserves your valuable greenbacks or not.

Design

When it comes to deigns, one may hardly find any different between the Cowon D2+ and its predecessor with similar dimensions (3” width, 2.2” length, 0.65”thick). Most of the time, you will have to manipulate with its touchscreen, but stylish menu, power controls, button hold and volume control have been seen rested on the player. On the left side of it, you will find USB and other Audio connections, while SD/MMC/SDHC card slot has been placed in the bottom.  Its 2.5” TFT LCD screen can display 1.6m colors with a 320×240-pixel QVGA resolution and you can compare it to the iPod Classic screen in mage quality as well as in size.

Features

The Cowon D2+ is replete with ordinary and some extraordinary features. It offers video, music as well as photo playback. It doesn’t end here and aside from loads of little extras, you will find Flash player, FM radio, radio/voice recorder and text reader too. If you are willing to spend a little more on cables, video output and line-input recording are some features that you will find there. Despite it’s extensive spec sheet, and nice screen size, the feature that can be called the nicest is what we have seen in the original D2 and it is its exceptional audio playback. However, the addition of the BBE+suite for the settings of audio enhancement is the only addition that makes it ahead of the original D2.

Some common music files like MP3, WMA, and WAV all will be supported on the D2+. Similarly, it will support boutique formats like Ogg and FLAC as well. But it wouldn’t support AAC music files.

All the features like FM radio, text, voice recording, photos and FM radio seem to work impressively, but most of them you have seen in the original D2. So, don’t expect anything new.

Performance

If you want to appreciate the D2+ sonic supremacy, you will definitely need to upgrade its bundling earbuds and have to switch on some of its sound enhancement settings. You can independently adjust 3D surround, Stereo enhancement as well as MP3 Enhancement. You can also adjust the ranges of frequency by drilling down into its EQ.

Unique Selling Points

  • Refined audio quality that you may not find in many available music players these days
  • Its 2.5” TFT LCD screen can display 1.6m colors with a 320×240-pixel QVGA resolution and you can compare it to the iPod Classic screen.
  • Long lasting battery life 52hrs for audio and 11hrs for video
