Buying a Laptop

What does your priority list say when it comes to good laptops? Usually, there are few major things that everyone is concerned about while getting a notebook like battery life, price, features and portability. Unless you are a business tycoon, a pop star or the best neurosurgeon in States; your preference will be a cost effective yet high tech and fully loaded notebook.

These days, tech market is being overloaded by computing machines every other day. A lot of companies have gotten into the business and are manufacturing nice notebooks for equally nice prices. This is why; an ordinary procurer will easily get confused while selecting the best machine. In fact, selecting a laptop has no set rules; it all depends upon your preferences and personal priorities. There are people, who want a laptop for official work; then there are people who are interested in multimedia features, and then there are games-maniacs. So, this is a preference game.

Traveling Executive:

If you want a laptop for official work and you are on the go most of times, you might want one with nice pack of work software installed, and having great battery life. There are many companies that are making laptops with extended battery life for hardcore roadsters, such as Dell, Acer and Panasonic. What you need is a tough and rugged notebook which can’t get damaged easily, having an average size (not too big as you will face difficulties while traveling via local transport), and long battery hours (in order to provide you maximum time to work while you are on the road or flying). Many tough machines are available in the market e.g. Panasonic’s Toughbook, Acer’s TravelMate and Dell’s Latitude range. Many new laptops are coming with ultra-long battery life, so you can have a look at them. Go for the machines that have Professional version of MS Windows installed in them, as you will get nice Office Tools and Programs along with it. Be very sure that you don’t out your hands on a laptop with 17” display; it will make you suffer throughout your journey. You must get one with an average size (like 10-15”) so that you don’t disturb the passenger sitting beside you with poking laptop edges.

Student:

Now, I will talk about students’ needs. If you are a student and want a portable computer for maximum utilization of your time, you should keep in consideration few points. First of all, you should understand that your basic work will revolve around web browsing and site surfing (for research purposes), connecting to social networking sites (for a bit of entertainment as well as being in contact with class mates and teachers) and working on Word, Power Point and Excel. As you are still studying and cannot spend a fortune on laptop, you have a limited budget for this purpose. Congratulations; manufacturers have started a specific line of mini laptops for you people, called Netbooks. These mini notebooks have almost all the qualities of a full fledge laptop, except for few compromises. First of all, netbooks are small in size (8”-11”), they have smaller and less efficient processors (usually Intel Atom), they don’t have optical drives (this means no DVDs), they don’t have awesome graphics (minimal gaming experience) and RAM as well as HDD is smaller. But, a netbook suffices the needs of a student (unless you have specific needs for gaming and multimedia features). A netbook will cost you way less than a full fledge laptop. Companies that are making netbooks include Asus (Eee PCs), Acer, MSI, HP, Dell and a bit expensive Sony (Vaio).

Gamer:

If you are a game enthusiast, you should get ready to loosen up your pocket big time. Gaming laptops are usually expensive than ordinary ones. They have better graphics (most of the time they have standalone Graphics Processing Units; GPUs), nice Display size and quality, fast CPU and bigger RAM. You might want one with Blu-ray Drive in order to play latest titles. A bigger display size will add to the pleasure, so will nice speakers do.

Ordinary Home User:

This type of users needs a laptop with basic features like nice display, entertainment features and affordable price. Long battery life is not needed here, as it will most likely be used as a desktop replacement (near a power supply). Therefore, bigger displays like 17” will do well. Other required features include main internet attributes (browsing, chatting, downloading and streaming videos) and entertainment facilities (optical drive, nice speakers, nice display and gaming facility). This category can find many options in the market from all the leading manufacturers.

Style Maniac:

If you care about style, status and fashion, there are companies that are making some very nice machines with highly attractive design for people like you. Major style icons include Sony and Apple. Do not forget that these brands are going to rob you of the major portion of your saving.

I hope this guide proves helpful to you.
