Processing Units

Processing UnitsEveryone needs fast processing units for their computers. The best selling central processing units which are popular amongst masses are made by Intel and AMD. AMD has released recently a 45nm silicon Phenom II chip, which is giving quite a competition to Intel. Intel has released the Core i7, and this makes the competition even tougher. Following are few processors which are nice choices, and not as expensive as the Core i7.

AMD Athlon X2 7750+ Black Edition (£65):

This chip is in fact based on the first generation 65 nm Phenom design, and for that reason it profits from a small amount of additional extras included wider floating point execution. Its features unlocked CPU multiplier for easy over clocking, which is in fact a feature of high priced Intel processors, though it cannot clock beyond 3.1GHz. Also, it is a dual-core processor with 2.7GHz operating frequency, and has 2MB of shared L3 cache, which is an additional interesting feature. It costs only £65.

Intel Pentium Dual-core E2180 (£55):

It is delicate little chip, with an operating frequency of 2 GHz, and has 1 MB of cache and 800MHz bus. As it has been structured on Intel’s Core 2 framework, this is why it delivers relatively upright experience regarding stock clocks. It can perform well with gaming and playing high definition videos and movies. Also, by using air cooler and stock voltages, the operating frequency can be improved to a level of 3GHz or even more. In all, this little and cheap chip performs similarly as many pricier Intel dual-core chips.

AMD Phenom II X4 810 (£130):

This is a quad core chip made by AMD, with an operating frequency of 2.6GHz. As this chip is quite similar to the preceding AM2, it can fit into several of the existing AMD motherboards. Also, it supports DDR3 memory. With the help of a conventional air cooler, this chip goes higher to 3.5 GHz. For its price, this is really good performance.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (£145):

It is a quad core processor, made by Intel. It is stated that it runs on 3.5 GHz or even more.

AMD Phenom II X4940 Black Edition (£190):

This chip has made AMD’s return to industry with a good name easier. Since its launch, AMD has gained back the reputation for classy processing units which should be used to build powerful and strong computer systems. Best thing about this chip is that you can upgrade your current AMD AM2 or even a humble dual core central processing unit with this new-fangled little processor. This will obviously upgrade your system to a great level, and working will become fun when you will experience the speed and performance. Upgrading won’t require a new motherboard or memory; this new chip will work well with the existing one. It is indeed a fast and speedy processor with stock clock speed of 3GHz and 6MB of cache. To attract more attention, it can run at 3.5GHz when an air cooler is used. Thus, this chip is, by all means, one of the finest options.

Intel Core i7 920 (£240):

This is perhaps the best chip available. Intel i7 is a quad core processor and runs at 2.66 GHz.  This processor outperforms Core 2 Extreme QX9770 and Phenom II, thus is the best option available, though it is pricey. As you will need a new motherboard and memory, so it will cost you a total of nearly £400.

These were the best available processing units available in the market these days. You can pick one according to your priorities and budget limit.
