Features:

The touchpad, lid and palm rest of this unique laptop is finished with bamboo panels, which give you a nostalgic feeling about the good old days of TVs and Speakers with wooden paneling. This laptop is not only comfortable looking, but is as functional and useful as any portable computer can be. Right now, only the touchpad, lid and palm rest are bamboo finished; remaining parts are still plastic clad.

Why bamboo? Do you know that bamboo is well known for its weightlessness

yet sturdiness? Yes, it is one such natural material that is not only easy to hold and pick, but is strong and sturdy as well. It is also popular for its properties of being renewable and recyclable. Thus by using bamboo panels in its laptop, Asus has shown its promising attitude towards greener world and eco-friendliness.

The processor Asus has used is an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400, along with 4GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics adapter and a 320GB hard drive. Indeed a fine multi-tasking unit!

Networking and other slots are in abundance, including an HDMI port. Touchpad is a pleasure to use, with bamboo paneling. Keyboard possesses nicely spaced keys, and is very easy to use; though I think that the white keyboard contrasts starkly with the solemn bamboo finish.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Lightweight
  • Bamboo paneling
  • Eco friendly
  • Built in optical drive
  • Portable size

Limitations:

  • Slow hard drive
  • Refinement needed in touchpad buttons
  • Narrow vertical viewing angle of screen
  • No FireWire
  • White keyboard looks awkward

Final Words:

This is a new direction of eco friendliness towards which Asus is heading. With natural and recyclable materials such as bamboo and wood used in laptops; Asus is expressing its concern for environment and trying its best to avoid being a part of polluting agents. Good going Asus!

Except for the message “Stay green” what else is soo catchy in this laptop…
I think it is slightly overpriced for just fitting into a bamboo case.

Frankly speaking I am not too sure how the wood will hold up over time, especially from sweaty palms, and you’ll probably have to refrain from sanding it back and re-finishing it if it does ever develop any stains. Likewise, be sure to purchase a suitable travel bag for the Bamboo Series to make sure the wood doesn’t get scratched or chipped.
