Until Archos decided to power its touch devices by Android, its media players were unable to astound the audience. Archos 5 Internet Tablet has Android 1.6 as its OS and that is what makes it stand out amongst the rivals. The buyer gets an option of buying either flash memory Archos 5 or one with hard drive (and both versions have huge price difference). It is a descendant of Archos 5 which was certainly not an Android powered device.

The Flash Lite web browser is awesome, but do not forget that it will tend to show the mobile web design pages as it is a mobile web browser. There are a host of internet apps and features that come with this internet tablet by default like DroidIn, Ebuddy IM, Twidroid, Dailymotion, Deezer, Quickpedia, Moov, Craigsphone etc.

The 4.8 inches widescreen display is ideal for multimedia and web browsing experience. The viewer will thoroughly enjoy the HD videos on this screen. The internal speakers offer decent audio for movies, but headphones will enhance the experience when it comes to music. With the high resolution and vivid display, multimedia is a great experience.

Built in GPS is another nice feature. You can either choose the pedestrian or adventure mode. There are several landmarks also. The device is DVR capable (a separate DVR Kit is sold for $140) and lets the user record scheduled TV content.

Overall, this is a great touchscreen device for web browsing, GPS and multimedia experience.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Intriguing large touchscreen HD display
  • Android OS
  • Number of internet apps
  • Built in GPS

Limitations:

  • Poor GPS signal reception, costs more while in pedestrian mode
  • Multitouch support for keyboard and gestures are missing
  • Smudge-prone casing
  • Expensive DVR Kit
