Future of Mobile Phones

Technology has progressed rapidly since past few years, especially when it comes to the computer and mobile phone manufacturing. We come across a new mobile phone model almost every day these days.

In the past, cell phone manufacture was thought to be a monopoly run by Nokia, Siemens, Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Now, the most beloved old dude Nokia seems to lag far behind the new-comers Apple and HTC (I mean, they are at least a little younger than the former one). These days, all we hear is about iPhone and HTC Android running phones. The Nokia Windows Mobile is, excuse me but, old story.

There was a time (a couple of years back) when Apple’s iPhone was considered to be the best phone in the whole world. Then, Android entered the competition, and Apple knew it was the beginning of its doom. Though Apple is trying hard to stay in the game (supposedly, with the iPhone 4!) but Android gives such a comforting feeling to users that they never want to go anywhere else than Android. Google has stepped in the race, too. The much loved HTC Google Nexus One is evidence itself. Now, when the big daddy is here, iPhone’s future seems to be real dreadful.

What is Android Operating System:

You must be wondering why Android is being liked so much. There is so much about this operating system that lets it stand out from all the other rival OS.

  1. First of all, it is an operating system for mobile devices that has been developed by Android Inc, which was later on acquired by Google.
  2. This is based upon Linux Kernel and GNU software.
  3. Since its launch in 2008, its popularity has grown rapidly. After Blackberry, it is the most liked OS in current year.

Android is an OpenSource operating system, and this makes it a wonderful one. Anyone can add into the App world of Android and keep it growing. This feature sets Android and iOS apart, clearly. Within a small period of time, Android Apps Market has grown to over 70,000 apps available for downloading. Also, it is growing day by day.

Major manufacturers whose devices run on Android include Acer, Bluelans Communication, Dell, Garmin, Geeks’Phone, General Mobile, Highscreen, HKC, HTC Corporation, Huawei, i-Mobile, Lenovo, LG Group, Motorola, Pantech and Samsung Group.

Applications:

Due to its OpenSource nature, anyone (who knows how to do it) can create apps for Android. It is being taught at Harvard now. Google has introduced its own apps, too e.g. Google Voice, Google Goggles and Google Shopper etc. Third party apps are also in the list, like Twitter, Facebook etc.

You can download apps and games by visiting Android’s app market. Find your required apps by browsing categories, top rated and featured apps. There are a lot of different kinds of apps that can attract you including games, sports, media, news, health and entertainment.

Some must have apps include Swype, AppMonster, Seesmic, Job Centre Plus, AppBrain Market Sync, Google Sky Map, Google Goggles, Task Manager, Skyfire 2.0 and RAC Traffic. There are certain games that you should download in your Android phone like Bebbled, The Red Stone, Sketch Online, Newton, Gem Miner, Replica Island and Titres.
