AMD has just uncovered its new Phenom II X4 Black Edition chip officially, the chip clocks at 3.2GHz with $245 price tag that clearly shows AMD’s intentions to dent Intel on the of price and its aiming at those passionate enthusiasts who always love to tweak.
The new chip has been developed to go up against the Core2 Quad 2.83 GHz with $270 price tag and the Core i7920 2.66 GHz with $289.
The true story of the new chip is its overclockability that has an unlocked multiplier, as there were some earlier reports regarding attempts of overclocking for hitting 6.7GHz barrier, but some other suggestions have also been noticed around the web that indicate towards a 45nm, 7GHz chip. AMD has also shown it X40 940 for 6.5 GHz back in January this year.
The new processor has 8MB of total cache and it has been designed for DDR3 memory and AM3 motherboards. The company has also uncovered the OverDrive Software that will allow users to adjust speed and voltages on their computer processors, HyperTransport and memory.
