Alternatives to Microsoft Office

Office software seems to consume a lot of time when trying to get familiar with all its features and there are very minimal chances that you would ever need to use all of these features. There are other applications on the internet today that contain only those features that are genuinely required. Hence you no longer have to rely on the entire package and get a simple alternative in terms of functionality.

OpenOffice.org

This is one of the biggest names when it comes to the free office suites. The latest version doesn’t add any latest applications but preserves the basic use of the presentation, text edition, drawing as well as the standard database functions. At the same time as it does not include the fancy features, it is still efficient and this version of OpenOffice can also open the Microsoft Office 2007 files.

Google Docs

For someone who doesn’t require the advanced features, you can use the basic word processor that allows you to write blogs as well as the spreadsheet that can be easily used to create forms, presentations and documents. It is a great free alternative to the conventional office software.

Thinkfree

Thinkfree is a remarkable fusion. It is an online java-based version and you can easily log in and run the applet in any of the windows or you can also copy it into your computer for further uses. The editor looks pretty similar to the office 2003 and you can process spreadsheets, notes, word processing and although they happen to be in the beta version, the software still needs a lot of development.
