Shacknews reports that 3D Realms, which is quite well-known as Duke Nukem Forever developer, is being shut down.

According to Shacknews, this has been confirmed by a reliable source that is quite near to 3D Realms. The source says that the step has been taken because of some funding issues and now the studio employees are allowed to go.

No statement has yet been received from 3D Realms, however, Deep Sliver and Apogee Software that are developing Duke Nukem coming handhelds have issued a statement in which they say that the current situation wouldn’t affect them.

This statement from Deep Silver and Apogee Software indicates that a bad situation definitely exists, however, the full story of the shut down has not emerged yet, but it’s expected quite soon.

On this report, Joe Siegler, a webmaster at 3D Realms says that: “It’s not something about marketing, but it has some truth in itself and I don’t want to say anything further about it at this moment.”

The situation has an expected nature that is quite evident from this post from Seigler.

Publisher Take-two that is dedicated to Duke Nukem from the very beginning has provided these reports to Shacknews and according to this report the company is not going to provide any more funding for the new development projects of the 3D Realms.

Oh, man. I spent many nights on Duke Nukem, it must have been versions 1 and 2.
But after spending about 12 years in development, it’s a big blow for the company as well for the fans. Seriously recession is now hitting below the belt.
I have heard that company continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever.
