In auto world, product line gaps fill as rapidly as they get opened. Hyundai has the credit to find as well as fill such gap quite quickly with its Genesis Coupe that we can call a good-looking, semi affordable and amazingly sporty Genesis Coupe.

One must not reckon it just a two door Genesis sedan version, as according to Hyundai, the only similarities in the Coupe and sedan are rear suspension, subframe and a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission.

The entry level coupe will be available with a $23,000 price tag and it has been powered by a 2.0-liter, 210-hp turbo four. Then, there is a 3.8-liter 306-hp V6 which will be available in a $26,000 to $30,000. It’s not much in the way of competition for the specific combination.

First of all you need to disregard those reviews that have been offered as “first drives”, actually these guys have driven cars that have Korean specifications and were tunes for luxury. Now there is a lot more performance oriented car than they were.

We found the new Coupe amazingly taut, downright fun and responsive while spent lapping two days in the streets and highways and indeed, it was somewhat more than what were expecting from it.

The first one we accompanied with was a 2.0-liter turbo 4 that has a Track package with nice traction and stability control turn off. We were also expecting a shorter and quicker version something like the SC400 Korean version in this soft Genesis Sedan. While in streets and on highways we found it a nice combination of power, comfort and luxury as it fairly leaped out of different blocks.

There is MacPherson strut front with five link rears that nicely keep the tires on the ground and always prove helpful to keep you in the right direction. In its V6 variant, it’s somewhat the same in controlling amazingly quickly. All you have to pay is a 95-pound weight penalty for additional 96hp. nearly 54% weights have been weighed on its front axle that restricts weight of the base 4-four-cylinder model from 3,294lbs to 3389lbs in the V6.

It has a lot more power with its V6 robust powerhouse, as it seemed to wrangle out amazingly on the short connection links as well as tight turns of the streets.

In short, we found it quite well-balanced car with its nice 19” wheels, Bridgestones—225/40 fronts and 245/40 rears, upgraded Brembo brakes and limited-slip differential.

Unique Selling Points

  • A nice combination of power and luxury with 3,294 lbs curb weight
  • An impressive 25mpg city/hwy fuel economy
  • Nice mileage of 0-60mph in less than six seconds for V6
  • Elegant design with loads of charming looks
