Speed Up Windows 7

Windows 7 is the latest operating system designed by the giant of software world; the Microsoft. It is, hitherto, the speediest OS by Microsoft. Some of us don’t know how to get the maximum out of any operating system and thus are not satisfied even with this speedy system. This article is for all of you who think that there can be more you can get out of Windows 7 as far as speed is concerned. Let us discuss some ways in which we can boost up our Windows 7’s speed.

Depending on the RAM that you have installed on your PC, you should decide which version of Windows 7 to install; either 32 bit or 4 bit. If you have a RAM less than 3GB, then go for the 32 bit version. Likewise, adopt the 64 bit version if you have more than 4GB RAM installed in the PC.

  2. Though CPU and HDD determine many factors, RAM does have an effect on the performance of your computer. 4GB RAM is adequate for most of the users. However, if you are into video editing or such similar intense working, there is no harm in increasing the RAM over 4GB.
  3. Keeping your system drivers updated is going to benefit you big time. Just keep on checking out the updates for graphics, audio, chipset (etc.) drivers and these updates will enhance your PC’s performance.
  4. If you move on to Solid State Drive, your Windows 7 will perform way better. These drives have fixed parts which lessen the noise. Also, SSDs are energy efficient and are speedier specifically regarding boot time.
  5. If there are many applications that show at startup, stop them from doing so. This is something that puts heavy burden on boot time. Run “msconfig” and choose what program to stay in the startup list and which one to leave the list. Believe me, this helps!
  6. Regular defragmentation of files and folders is a necessary step and in Windows 7, it is automatic. After every week, this automatic process begins. You can also do this manually. This won’t help in SSD, but HDD will surely be managed and organized in a nice manner.
  7. Cleaning up temporary and non-benefiting files from the PC is very important in order to boost up the speed and performance. You can either use the default cleaning up system in your Windows 7, or can use an external one (e.g.CCleaner).
  8. If you are pretty sure that no one else is going to access your PC, then avoid passwords. This isn’t going to do any good but spare you few seconds while booting.
  9. If you have an older PC in your use, then it is better to turn the catchy visual effects of Windows 7 off in order to avoid more power consumption and bad effect on overall system performance.
  10. There might be some programs and software installed in your Windows 7 that are of no use to you. Best step is to uninstall them and enjoy better speed.
